Popcorn, Films And Liberty Cinema

Last time I was in Bombay, my dear friend, Aparna Jaykumar let me take some pictures in a cinema she manages. The art deco, 1947 cinema is still standing but now doesn’t have film showings, instead is rented out for shootings or events like launches. The theatre is beautifully built, such a shame that so few single screen cinema’s are still operational.

David Vinnels and Brent Skelly describe Liberty Cinema as “an exquisite jewel box of rococo decoration enhanced by a coloured lighting scheme suggesting a fairyland far away from the bustle and tumult in the streets outside” in their book Bollywood Showplaces: Cinema Theatres in India. There is more about the cinema on wikipedia if you like.
